Building off of No-phone Difficulties and Speed of Communication, I want to find a sweet spot between fostering creativity through disconnecting from the dopamine treadmills but also being there when needed by your network. This really boils down to information flow and what actually needs our attention. The bridge between you and the online world is your phone, and it does a very bad job and working for you. Destructive noise seeps through because we’re weak to the skinner boxes and dark patterns used.
Thinking back to pagers, they were a necessity in a time before we had phones attached to our hip, but worked well to make us aware of when we needed to reach back into the network. If we could have a modern day equivalent; low power, e-ink, networked device that received notifications (whatsapp messages, missed phone calls, etc..) that we personally decided were important enough to break us out of creative flow, it could act as a firewall that we control, to carry around anywhere, and be unobtrusive.
