Whatsapp, text, calls, email, discord, facebook, twitter etc. they ping up on your phone instantly. There is a benifit to this, let’s say a plan changes last minute! But the vast majority of communication doesn’t need to be instant.
People talk about the feeling of obligation and being monitored by these instant messengers, specifically with read receipts.
This hasn’t always been the case though, but it has been a gradient over time slipping into the current day.
Messengers on foot, on horseback, via pigeons, smoke signals, semaphores, telegrams, post.
Where’s the sweet spot between convinience and not being detrimental?
What if there was a way to send texts that took a day to arrive, binned to arrive in the morning like post? That way, you could reply leasuirly and meaningfully. Mindfully responding as each message becomes more important.
Do people actually want to leave all the benifits behind, or is it just nostalgia?
